Fast Food

Studies have shown that fatty foods damage the hypothalamus. This part of the brain produces hormones that control hunger, thirst, sleep, mood, and other natural rhythms of the body.

A study conducted on rats that were given a high fat diet revealed that the frequent consumption of fatty foods caused inflammation to the hypothalamus. Another study also showed that eating fast food was connected with brain shrinkage, which can lead to Alzheimer’s.

 Salty Foods

An analysis performed over the course of three years proved that salty foods are not only hard on the heart but hard on the brain as well.  Participants in the study with the highest sodium intake accompanied with the lowest level of exercise performed poorer on cognitive tests than did those with lower sodium intake and more exercise.

Fried Food

Research has revealed that compounds released by common cooking oils raised the risk of neurological degenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease. These compounds are released when vegetable oils are heated to frying temperatures. Flaxseed and sunflower oils release the most toxins.

Foods With Pesticides

Several studies have revealed that long-term exposure to a widely used pesticide kills brain cells and triggers symptoms of Parkinson’s disease. More over, some areas of the brain displayed a loss of neurons in particular areas.

Processed Foods

Preservatives and food dyes affect the cognitive function and behavior of some children resulting in an increase of hyperactivity.  Artificial food additives make up more than 3,000 chemicals that are added to our food.  MSG was proven to destroy brain cells and other food additives were hazardous to the developing nervous system of children.
