What is the toughest thing for me, a memory speaker, in regards to memory at this stage in my memory career?

Easy…..FOCUS!!

Right now I am in the middle of memorizing 6,000 pieces of information for a MASSIVE memory training demonstration. It will be the crowing achievement of my 20 year career up to this point. I have done nothing that comes close to this. To be very candid with you the task itself, while massive breaks down into my simple memory training system that anyone can learn and implement.

The biggest challenge for me, a memory speaker, right now is not my memory capacity, it is remarkable as is yours. The biggest challenge that I am struggling with is FOCUS. Memory and focus really go hand in hand for success in memory. I have learned some memory focus games and one is to think of a shape (circle, square, rectangle, etc) and then think of a color for that shape. Now the goal is to close your eyes and 100% focus on that and nothing else. As soon as something enters your mind (your relationships, friendships, job, money, things to do, disagreements, movies, baseball or ANYTHING) stop the clock and see how long you could go thinking of just that one thing. Then just keep trying to get better and better scores. How awesome would it be if you could do this for 10 minutes?! If the shape changes sizes or starts morphing that doesn’t count. It needs to stay exactly the same.

Other items that should help your memory and focus are spinach, blueberries and Omega-3 fish oil pills.

But to be honest, my distractions of focus are things like not wanting to sit still long enough to memorize. I want to go out to a baseball game or meet with friends. Perhaps procrastination could also be substituted here. Yet, the memory training demonstration that I am in the process of attempting is HUGE…HUGE and I must work on my focus. So instead, I am reminding myself of the ‘pay-off’ if I can sit at this desk for hours on end and do nothing but memorize. Another thing I do is reward myself with breaks to keep my mind fresh.

So there you have it, the memory guy’s biggest challenge is not memorizing but sitting still long enough TO MEMORIZE. To be honest, I should be memorizing right now but I took a break to write this blog as part of my procrastination…so with that said….back to work (memorizing).
