Does Ron White memory expert use an organizer or day timer? Do I use my cell phone to save phone numbers? Sure I do.
Back when I was a kid we walked to school in 3 feet of snow and it was uphill both ways!! Okay, actually not. But that doesn’t mean things weren’t a lot then they are now….
Back in the day MTV was a channel that played MUSIC videos! :)
If you needed to make a phone call and you were not at home you looked for a phone booth.
If you wanted to call a friend, you had 10 numbers in your speed dial and the rest you memorized!
Today? Do we still have a rolodex of phone numbers in our brains? Of course, not. When I phones are lost, damaged or stolen we run to our email or Facebook account and ask everyone to send us their numbers so we can program it in our new phone.
My challenge to you and your memory is to learn how to memorize the phone numbers of your 20 closest friends or most frequent calls. Not only will it be a good memory building exercise for you. It will also give you the ability to call your friends should you ever lose your phone!
As usual the key to memorizing anything is to turn it into a picture and store it to what we call files or what Simonedes (the father of memory training) referred to as loci (Latin word meaning place). With a little memory training you should have no problem recalling the numbers of 100s of people. So enjoy your project and get to work on becoming a human phone book!
Here is a video on memorizing numbers
Hi Ron, I went through your “Memory in a Month” program again recently and have been focusing on numbers with some success but was having some difficulty with phone numbers because of the format we usually hear them: 123-456-7890.
The memory system uses numbers in pairs so I’m glad I found this post but at the same time I almost feel hopeless that I have to create so many more pictures for 3 digit numbers.
Additionally, I’m bummed that I worked so hard with the memory program creating and memorizing 100 images for two digit numbers to find I need to create 100 people, actions and objects.
Can you please offer some words of encouragement for a student that is seriously trying to embrace this method, (and healthy life style for the brain).
Well thanks for the comment and I will say that you are learning exactly the way I did. When I 1st started all I knew was the 2 digit system and it worked great for me. Then I went to the 3 digit system. (you can get my images for this at http://www.mentallyrich.com (free download)
Then in 2008 I learned about character/action/object.
My suggestion would be to master Character/action/object and KEEP your 2 digit pics for #s. Why?
because with a phone number you could memorize the 1st 6 digits with CAO then you would have 1 digit left over at the end and you could use your pics for 01-09 you already have in your 2 digit system
(in other words I am recommending you skip the 3 digit system)
BUT the 2 digit pics are not a total loss either. If you had a list of 100 words you could ‘file’ those to that list as well. It gives you 100 more files

hang in there!!!
Why don’t you join us at the http://www.usamemorychampionship.com ? If you attended and you have a 2 digit system I can PROMISE you that you would finish at least somewhere in the middle. 50% don’t even have that!!
