So you wish you could remember more?
Well, then STOP saying…’I have a terrible memory.’
“I am a terrible test taker.’
‘I am not good with names.’
‘I can’t remember like I used to.’
STOP…STOP…STOP!!!!
In 2008, I emailed the then World Memory Champion, Ben Pridmore and asked him to give me his #1 piece of advice for memorizing a deck of cards faster. He at the time held the world record for memorizing a deck of cards in something crazy like 24 seconds!!! His #1 piece of advice was, ‘TRUST YOUR MEMORY.’ He explained what slows many down is that they will go slower than required because they weren’t sure that they ‘had it’. He instead advised me to go faster than I was comfortable with and ‘trust my memory.’
I started zooming through the cards faster than I was comfortable with and when I got to the 52nd card I would close my eyes and start the recall. I was AMAZED. Ben was RIGHT! I was trusting my memory and it was delivering for me.
How to remember? There are a lot of ways and I cover those in this free memory tips blog and also in my memory improvement cds
But one of the best things that you can start doing is trusting your memory. I bet it is better than you give it credit for. Have you ever been in a car accident?
– Was it day or night?
– Who was driving?
– How did it happen?
– Where did it occur?
– Who was in the car you crashed into (man or woman)?
I bet you can remember ALL these points and I also bet you can if it was more than 20 years ago! Why? Because it has action/emotion in it and those are things that your memory will recall.
Do you remember anything about your highschool/college graduation day? Wedding day? Birth of child? SURE! Your memory is better than you give it credit for. So stop sabotaging by saying your memory isn’t any good.
Until next time….trust your memory
